This charming little cafe and restaurant is situated within the Cherry Lane garden centre on the way to Fritton. The warm modern interior lends itself to a very welcoming atmosphere and the reasonably priced menu invites you back time and time again. Having popped in for a light lunch on several occasions, I have always wanted to order their afternoon tea for two. Today i finally got to fulfil that desire. The room was bustling with young families, groups of nattering friends and pensioners, so thought the cafe might be too busy for their afternoon tea option. |
However, we ordered without hitch and found it a delight we weren't required to pre-book, which is so often the case with afternoon tea. After a short wait we were presented with two individual pots of tea and a two tiered cake stand filled with sandwiches, sausage rolls, scones and cakes.
Whilst ordering we had the option of two types of sandwich fillings. We chose the tuna crunch and cheese & onion variety. The bread was soft white with a contrasting tough crust - very tasty.
The sausage rolls were served cold, yet full of flavour and the two types of cake presented, (chocolate brownie & cinnamon apple crumble) rounded the experience very well.
On the other hand, we only received half a scone each with a pot of squirty cream which bubbled away to a bland liquid when spread over the scone. The inability to access wifi in the cafe was another negative as any progressive meeting place in the 21st century caters for the digital savvy.
Also, quite often when purchasing afternoon tea for two, a member of staff occasionally offers to refill your tea as part of your purchase. Sadly there was no such offer at The Plantation and we found the amount of tea served a little sparse.
Altogether, a wonderful little place to grab lunch whilst shopping for garden and homeware. Despite the very small disadvantages pointed out, the afternoon tea was good value for money at only £11.90 for two of us and will be visiting again in the near future.
